MAPCA Missions

I. Local Evangelism/Outreach/Mercy Ministries:

Seniors and Nursing Home Ministries - MAPC serves our own community nursing homes, assisted-living centers, and senior apartment complexes by providing hymn-singing and other choral and instrumental musical presentations throughout each year. A number of MAPC members provide a hymn-singing time and a short Bible message every 4th Sunday in the afternoon at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mt. Airy, Maryland. We have grown to love the residents there, and it is a wonderful time of singing and sharing Christ's love with these wonderful folks! Come join us! Let's work together in the Holy Spirit's power to grow in our service for Christ at Pleasant View! We also present choral music at Lorien Life Care Center and Spring Ridge Senior Apartments in Mt. Airy at Christmas and Easter time. The MAPC choir presents a number of wonderful classical pieces to the residents of these two places, and we enjoy great times of fellowship with the residents. Come join us in making a joyful noise unto the Lord! Please consider coming with us to sing your old favorite hymns at the local nursing homes! Share with us the joys of ministering these wonderful folks!

May Fest and October Fest Outreach Projects -
Each year, in mid-May and early October, Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church obtains a spot on Main Street in downtown Mt. Airy, Maryland, from which we reach out to people with the Gospel of Christ and with information about our church and its ministries.  These outreach projects provide opportunities for individuals, Sunday school classes, or other smaller groups to assemble Gospel bracelets, label bottled water, prepare information brochures, assist in booth set-up, ad meet people on the street as we reach out to our community.  These outreach projects are great opportunities to share Christ’s Gospel and love with adults, children, and all ages in between!

The next Mt. Airy Main Street project will, Lord willing, be early May 2009.  Contact Ken Scheffter at CovenantBusInc@aol.com for more information.

II. Short-term Missions Projects:

Fairmont Mission Trip:
For the past 8 years, the Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church Missions and Outreach Committee has offered a short-term missions opportunity at Fairmont, West Virginia for our congregation. This is a 7-day missions trip offered every summer through Mission To The World (MTW), the PCA's world missions organization, emphasizing family and youth outreach by relational evangelism and service to the members of that community.

Katrina Relief Short-Term Mission Trip:

A short-term mission team is usually from Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church to the Bay St. Louis, MS, area in early January of each year. Please click here to learn more about this mission and here to see the Bay St. Louis mission site.

Belize Evangelism and Mercy Mission Trip:
Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church provides an opportunity for small teams to go to Belize, Central America, once or twice a year to share the Gospel of Christ with needy, homeless, and imprisoned Belizians, and to do mercy ministry in Christ’s name.  This ministry is done through MTW, and is funded by the individuals who go on the team.  See pictures of the November 06, September 07, May 08, and Sept. 08 trips on the Belize link.  Contact Ken Scheffter at Covenantbusinc@aol.com for further information.

The next trip to Belize, will, Lord willing, be May 09 and Sept/Oct 09.  The MAPC Missions Committee is also prayerfully considering a team going in 2009 to assist in building the Christian school near Unity Presbyterian Church in Belize City, Belize.
