Fairmont Missions 2004!
| Thanks to our Great and Wonderful God, the Fairmont 2004 Missions Trip was a truly great experience! We wonder each year at how mightily God works, and how He could possibly make the next year's missions trip to Fairmont any better. But He keeps blessing in marvelous ways that we could never ask or imagine, and this year's trip was "Awesome" in the true spiritual sense of the word! The spiritual richness of this year's missions trip was actually evident much earlier in the spring of 2004. As the team formed, there was truly a spirit of unity and anticipation of spiritual growth that was felt by all involved. The Lord provided richly for all the team's financial needs, and then some, for which we are so thankful to Him. There was always a wonderful expectation during the team meetings of great things the Lord was about to do both in Fairmont WV and in our own hearts, and the Lord did do great things! The depth and richness of what God has done through this trip will likely be years unfolding within our church body, and within each of us who participated. The team left Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church July 17th. We returned July 24th and not one of the 23 of us was the same as we were when we left! We were privileged this year to once again work in Grant Town, WV, and we were by God's providence able to work on the homes of two families! The first home was the same one we served on the 2003 Missions Trip. What a blessing it was to again fellowship with our dear friends from last year! We were able to do many of the "inside" and structural home repairs we did not get to do last year. However, the most wonderful part was that we grew deeper in friendship, fellowship, and love with our hosts. We thank the hosts for their magnificent hospitality, opening their home to us and sharing their lives with us the entire week! We also were privileged to work with another family a few doors down the street, providing a new back porch and bathroom ceiling for this dear family. We were able to minister in prayer and service in ways we did not anticipate, and grew very close to them. We believe that the Lord will provide ways throughout the year for us to continue to serve them and fellowship with them. For the third year in a row, we were able to work with other churches to provide a Vacation Bible School in the Grant Town WV Town Center. Many of the children we had met in the previous two missions trips returned, and we continued to grow in our love for them. The Gospel was presented throughout the week with skits, Bible stories, and the reading of God's Word. Continue to pray with us that the seeds sown there will reap a harvest for Jesus Christ. Many thanks to the missions team from Holland Michigan! We love you, and hope to serve with you often! In actuality, we have begun to "adopt" the entire street we have worked on for the past two years. We had many opportunities to share our lives with neighbors up and down the street, and the Lord provided several opportunities to share the Gospel also. But we were all blessed so much by the homeowners sharing THEIR lives with US! Several of them were able to come to the camp for dinner the last day, and what they shared really touched our hearts. It is so wonderful that the Lord gave us the opportunity to meet these dear folks. We hope and pray that we will be able to return again and again to our "adopted" street. Come join us next year for FAIRMONT 2005, or should we say "Grant Town 2005"?? |
